This Day in Nature: The American Dagger Moth

American dagger moth caterpillar

September 1st: This living, breathing stuffed animal is the caterpillar form of the American dagger moth. It's not much to look at as a moth, butcheck out those black daggers coming out of the Telly Tubby yellow coat! In October this little guy will find a place to create a cocoon, then spend the winter laying low, transforming. In the spring it will fly away as a brown moth.
